Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa in 1503-1506, the Italian Renaissance. This painting is called the "best known, the most visited and the most written about, the most sung about and the most parodied work of art in the world";  it is one of the most valuable paintings in the world. The subject was Lisa del Giocondo, the painting is on permanent display at the Louvre in Paris.
