The Girl with the Pearl Earring is an oil painting by Johannes Vermeer, painted in the Dutch Golden Age in 1665. It is not known if the subject was a  real person; this type of painting is called a tronie. This painting hangs in the Mauritshuis Collection, The Hague, Netherlands.
